If you have been wondering why I’ve been so quiet about the three new Smashing Pumpkins songs…
I think I’m going to have to accept that the Pumpkins have taken a new path, down the road that is currently way too overcrowded and traveled all too frequently.
They sound great for what it is they are doing, if that is indeed what they are trying to do? But the passion, depth, and resonance that once accompanied Billy Corgan and his tunes is gone. These latest new songs are in reality very nice, but I can’t listen to them without getting depressed. I’m hearing his voice and its so lovely, but the lyrics feel empty and the music is kind of average. (ouch)
It sounds like Billy is having fun, playing around with some friends, and quickly writing songs. Thats his right, its just that he has always been so picky about his music. I hope this doesn’t come across as complaining because I could never, more so I’m just talking through my thoughts and feelings. I think after this Thumper and I will revert to saying “nothing at all” on this subject for a while.
