My three year old requested Christmas music in the car the other day, totally unprompted and out of the blue. I didn’t know he even knew what Christmas music was.
I explained to him that mommy didn’t have any of those cd’s in the car, and that Christmas music was not on my ipod, so we couldn’t listen to it at that moment. However, next time we went somewhere I was ready.
Sure enough: “I want to listen to Christmas music.” So I took Zeitgeist out of the cd player and put in my homemade holiday mix which of course features The Smashing Pumpkins “Christmas Time” as the first song. I was so enjoying the skepticism on all three of their faces (watch the road!!) as Billy Corgan started to sing.
Them: “isn’t this Billy Corgan?”
me: “yep” pause
Billy: (singing) “Christmas time is here”
Them: “it is Christmas music, YEAH!!”
Then my three year old asked me (he’s totally my favorite now
) “are we having a Billy Christmas?”
I don’t know exactly what that is, but I sure hope so. Anyways, I figure if Hipsters United can declare Thanksgiving Day 2007 as “Gish day” then I can probably have a Billy Christmas.

LOL! This is great. And I say yes — we at HU are thankful for Gish, so Thanksgiving apparently became Gish Day.
If you and your son are Merry for Billy, then by golly — Billy Christmas it is.
Thanks for sharing that awesome story.
Jen-
I was going to tell you a story about the same song so this fits perfectly. So, Tyler and I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond to register and that song comes on. I lean over and say, “Do you know who this is?” and Tyler didn’t have a clue. So, then I got all nervous that I was wrong, but when Billy started singing I said, “Now do you know?” and he he still didn’t. I finally told him it was the Pumpkins and he got kind of grumpy “WEll, I’ve never heard their Christmas album before.” I was just so proud of myself and wanted to tell you so you could be proud too. Billy Christmas to you!

Katie,
I am so excited for you to be my sister in law, you are adorable. And you are sooo cool to have recognized the SP Christmas Song, especially before Tyler even knew what was going on, that is very funny.
